Sally Hitchcock

The Beach

The beauty and magnificence of the sea is overwhelming.  I remember on many occasions climbing the stairs to my rented cottage and at the top of the landing opening the door to the house and seeing the drapes pulled wide and the endless water stretching in front of me.  It literally took my breath away each time.  After enjoying the view for a moment, I looked for Zoe and Reannon, my two faithful doggy companions.  We ran down the board walk to the freedom of the beach.  We didn't even unpack the car, we were so eager to touch the roiling water.  Zoe ran immediately into the waves and tried to catch them in her mouth.  Reannon ran in circles down the beach, kicking up sand into piles.  I just stood and smiled.  The freedom and exhilaration of being in the October wind on a deserted beach was shared equally by all of us creatures.  When we finally became tired and went back to the cottage, we were happy.
